Peking Man’s success
The .. Auckland band, Peking Man, scooped the top prizes in the New Zealand Music Awards announced yesterday. The band won the best single and album awards and its vocalists, Pat and Margaret Urlich, were named top male and female singers of the year.
Single of the year: “Room That Echoes,” by Peking Man. Album: “Peking Man,” by Peking Man. Top male vocalist: Pat Urlich. Female vocalist: Margaret Urlich. Top group: Peking Man. Special award: John Douglas.
Jazz record: “Iris,” by Phil Broadhurst Trio. Country record: “Patsy Riggir Country,” by Patsy Riggir. Classical record: “A Song of Islands,” by New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Polynesian record: ‘Flower of Samoa,” by The Five Stars; “Little Tui,” by Mahia Blackmore.
Folk record: “Boats Away,” by various artists. Gospel record: “Matou Te Fia Sauna,” by Samoan Christian Church Choir.
Most promising group: Ardijah. Most promising male vocalist: Tex Pistol (lan Morris). Most promising female vocalist: Tania Rowles.
