Polynesian Festival
Sir,—Christchurch was honoured in being the venue for the Polynesian Festival. Full credit must go to the participating groups for the extremely high quality of performances. The physique and agility of the men, together with the poise and grace of the women, made for items of outstanding interest. Those who organised the festival, the tutors and the elders, deserve commendation. It was pleasing to see the strong support given by the Christchurch City Council and sponsors. The presence of the Governor-General at the opening ceremony provided a fitting beginning. The participating groups came from all over New Zealand gand it is wonderful to see our Maori friends retaining their culture in such a fine manner. Pacific Islands groups provided extra interest. Surely a wonderful week-end of entertainment. — Yours, etc.,
B. R. HANSEN. October 27, 1986.
