Davenport wins open
NZPA-Reuter Houston Second-seeded Stuart Davenport scored his first big victory on Saturday when he upset the topseed, Ross Norman, in the finals of the United States Open Squash Championships. The two New Zealanders had met 10 times during the last two seasons, but this was Davenport’s first win. The 55-minute first game was won in overtime when Norman, aged 27, forced a backhand error after an exchange of volleys. Dispirited by what almost was, Davenport put up token resistance and dropped the one-sided sewnd game by 10 points.
