Spain triumphs
Spain, which first competed in the world women’s amateur teams golf championship in 1966, broke through for its first win in the Espirito Santo Trophy contest at Caracas. Venezuela. Spain finished the 72-hole tournament with a total of 580, three strokes ahead of France, which had started the final round two shots behind Spain. The United States, which was defending its title, took third on 584 and tied for fourth were Britain and
Japan, both on 586. An outstanding final score of 68, the best of the tournament, by Marie-Laure De Lorentzi, of France, failed to win the trophy as the next counting score by the French team was 80. De Lorentzi. however, did win the individual aggregate on 284. She had three par rounds before her 68. to head off the United States champion. Kay Ccckerill, who had two scores of 70. two under par.
