Collectors want talks
Several of Christchurch’s commercial waste collectors are calling for an urgent meeting with the Metropolitan Refuse Committee to discuss refuse station charges. They met last evening to discuss action over the increased charges, and set up a sub-committee of five to arrange an urgent
meeting with the committee.
A spokesman, Mr Noel Dick,, said the 36 collectors who were at the meeting wanted to have a “round the table” talk with the Refuse Committee.
They were unhappy about increased charges and minimum charges at refuse stations.
Mr Dick said that not only commercial collectors but commercial landscape gardeners and other gardeners were affected. The chairman of the Refuse Committeee before the local body elections was Cr Ron Wright, who has indicated his willingness to discuss the matter with collectors.
