N.Z. runner 19th

A Wellington marathon runner, Graham Macky, finished nineteenth in the sixth Beijing marathon yesterday. Macky completed the distance in 2 hours, 14 minutes, 35 seconds. The Wellingtonian finished eighth in last year’s event. Japanese runners took first and second place in record time, continuing their country’s domination

of the event. The winner, Kodama Taisuke, ’ completed the course in 2:7.35, which the New China News Agency said was the fastest marathon so far this year.

Third and fourth were two Tanzanians, Juma Ikangaa and Gidamis Shahanga, just over one and two minutes respectively behind the winner.
