Transfer station charges

Sir, —As a garden contractor of 20 years standing, an important part of my service is the removal of garden rubbish. Most of my clients are elderly, in poor health and with limited means and have to rely entirely upon me for garden help. Now that it is compulsory for all commercial vehicles to be weighed at any of the transfer stations, the cost of dumping has more than trebled for me. The last time I emptied my 6ft by -4ft trailer I was asked to pay $20.94. As the result of these excessive charges, some of my clients will have to forgo my services. I suggest that a set of standard charges be made for commercial vehicles according to the capacity of each. — Yours, etc.,

ALAN A. SPRINGALL. October 15, 1986.
