Missing girl possible case of foul play—police
By
GRANT BRADLEY
Police, Army and volunteer searchers failed to find yesterday any trace of Louisa Damodran, aged six, who has been missing from near her Bromley home since Wednesday afternoon.
The officer in charge of the search, Inspector Bob Mather, said that foul play was being strongly considered as a reason for the child’s disappearance. “There was no sign of
her or confirmed sighting and so we have to assume the worst,” he said. Abduction was a possibility, he said. The last confirmed sighting of Louisa Damodran was
about 140 metres from her Maces Road home at 3.15 p.m. on Wednesday. However, the police believe that she might have been in an adventure playground at Bromley
School some time between 3 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday. Two boys and two younger girls were seen playing on the swings in the playground at that time and the police would like to speak to them or anyone who saw anyone else nearby at the time.
About 100 soldiers from Burnham Military Camp joined the search late yesterday afternoon and scoured paddocks and fields in the area for any trace of Louisa. Cemeteries nearby were also being searched. About 65 volunteers had earlier searched the area and a Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois helicopter had made an aerial search.
A search headquarters was set up at the Bromley Community Centre and detectives and uniformed police made house-to-house inquiries.
Mr Mather said the form of the search and inquiries would be reassessed this morning.
