City’s bid for more roads cash fails
Wellington reporter
The . National Roads Board has rejected a request from the Christchurch City Council for extra funds to cover overspending on roads for 1985-86. Mr Alan Kennaird, the deputy director of roading, said that the amount was within the 2 per cent tolerance of Christchurch’s programme and the council was expected to meet the cost itself.
But the board did approve an increase of $169,000 to Christchurch’s 1986-87 road shape correction programme, subject to the funds being available. This increase was needed to allow work from 1985-86 to be completed, Mr Kennaird said. The board also approved a supplementary amount of $140,000 for basic items in Christchurch’s 1986-87 programme, as this was within the programme level supported by a board investigating team, in Christchurch recently.
