Bail was opposed for a man who, facing a charge : of being armed with; a, rifle, robbed the Addington branch of Trust Bank Canterbury, of $21,350, voluntarily gave himself up to the police at the week-end. In the District Court yesterday Judge Sheehan remanded Bruce John Bulmer in custody to October 20.

A large amount of money had been taken some of which, but not all, had been recovered, said Sergeant South. A duty solicitor, Mr Rupert Glover, said he had been instructed to seek bail. Bulmer, who admitted only a minor part in the offence, had voluntarily given himself up to the police, and for - this he should be given some credit, said Mr Glover. Leann Rae Bulmer, aged 20, a housewife (Mr D. C. Fitzgibbon) was remanded on bail of $5OOO to October 20.
No plea was entered by Mrs Bulmer who js charged with conspiring with Robert Anthony McGilligan, Barbara Gael Kitchin, and her husband, to commit the aggravated robbery of the bank. Bail was not opposed by Sergeant South, provided a surety was sought
He said the accused had played only a minor role in the alleged crime.
A man and a woman were to appear in the District Court at Wellington yesterday to face charges related to the Addington bank robbery last Friday evening. They were arrested about 5.40 p.m. on Saturday as they were driving off the Picton-to-Welling-ton ferry. A firearm and a large amount of money were recovered by the police. Sergeant South said Dixon got off a bus at Christchurch Hospital on Saturday, walked to the physiotherapy department and stole the wallets which belonged to staff attending a lecture. He was caught in the cleaners’ toilet searching through the wallets. All the property was recovered, said Sergeant South. In remanding Dixon in custody, the Judge said it was the defendant’s fourth conviction for theft in the last 12 months. The Judge told the defendant that he had breached a position of trust It was impossible to say what long-term effects his conduct would have on the complainant It was to the defendant’s credit that he had admitted the offence. By doing so the girl had been spared from the trauma of a defended hearing, he said. A term of imprisonment was “completely appropriate," he said. Mr D. J.
