Blast damages police station

Nelson reporter A blast badly damaged the open foyer of the Richmond police station, 13km south of Nelson, early yesterday. Residents were awakened by an explosion soon after 3 a.m. The station,, although staffed by four uniformed police, was unoccupied at the time ofi the blast. , The police believe that

a single stick of gelignite was used. The blast smashed woodwork and glass leading into the station and scattered small debris up to 30m from the station.
