Most advanced cable technology at Austral
Austral Standard Cables Proprietary, Ltd, is probably one of the few cable manufacturers in New Zealand to enjoy access to the most advanced cable technology in the world, which it adapts to meet the specialised needs of New Zealand customers. "• The firm can do this because it is joint-owned by Metal Manufactures, Ltd, which is an associate company of British Insulated Calendar Cables, Ltd, in England, and Standard Telephones and Cables, Australia, Ltd, an associate of the ITT Corporation. Austral Standard Cables has three cable factories in Clayton, and Liverpool, Australia,. and Hornby, New Zealand. It also owns a whollyowned subsidiary in Bly’s Industry, Sydney, Australia which makes telephone cords.
In addition to the manufacturing operations, the company operates a research centre, a quality control group, and marketing and customer-en-gineering groups in both Australia and New Zealand. Whilst Austral Standard Cables has a comprehensive range of standard products based on the traditionally established cables used in Australia and New Zealand, there is little preventing the manufacturer of cables to customers’ exact requirements. It should, however, be noted that all products are communication-type cables, for the transmission of information. The company does not manufacture cables for the transmission of electric power, although it does have associate companies engaged in this activity.
