Limits on live sheep trade attacked
PA Wellington Limits on live sheep exports have been labelled nonsensical by the chairman of Federated Farmers meat and wool section, Mr Bruce Anderson, who is one of the five-member live sheep export committee which sets quotas for the trade. Mr Anderson said the Government had thrown its free market philosophies out the window in setting up the committee, and instead of letting market forces reign, had allowed it to set “a very low upper limit on live sheep exports.” The committee has already approved the export of 360,000 live sheep later this season, and is believed to have applications for a further million or more.
