Brewer to sponsor Pope
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney Australia’s largest independent brewer will be a sponsor of the Pope’s Australian tour in November. South Australia Brewing Holdings Group is one of three big corporate sponsors for the visit. The sum paid by the company was “significant,” said a spokesman. The South Australian director of the Pope’s visit, Father Anthony Kain, said he saw nothing unholy in a sponsorship deal with a brewery. "Most (Roman Catholics) believe that alcohol is a gift from God. But like all things in life, the catch is to use it well, not abuse it,” he said. S.A. Brewing will hold a party after the Pope’s Adelaide Mass on November 30, which is expected to attract 250,000 people from all denominations.
