Warning from union
PA Wellington Retailers planning to keep their shops open later this evening to catch the pre-GST rush have drawn a warning from the Shop Employees’ Union. Many shops throughout New Zealand plan late nights and some plan to stay open until midnight. The union secretary, Mr Graham Kelly, said yesterday that under the
Shop Hours Trading Act there was a strict prohibition on opening after 9 p.m. The union award also says that apart from food stores, shops can open late only one night a week. Therefore shops opening late this evening for the expected rush will have to forfeit their Friday late night.
