Firm track could upset favourites

Special correspondent Auckland The outcome of the Waikato Hunt Cup at the Waikato Hunt Club’s meeting at Te Rapa today will depend on which horse best adapts to the track which is likely to be firm. On soft or heavy ground, to which jumpers are more accustomed, Jean Rapier and Seeyoulater could be expected to provide the quinella as they have done in the last two races. Such talented and experienced jumpers, Jean Rapier and Seeyoulater need to be respected even racing on track conditions

that do not suit them. But the firmer ground provides the prospect of them both being beaten perhaps by Orca, even though he is now 11 which is quite old even for a steeplechaser. Barusha, Laud Eulogy, Auto Air and Precocious Lad which race in the 1600 metre Sunday News Handicap, will also provide an attraction at the meeting. Secured Deposit and Mister Lumlee are also in the field making it even more interesting. After clearing the intermediate classes so attractively Barsuha made a big impression beating

Waverley Star, Catering King and the rest at Awapuni last Saturday. Laud Eulogy ran fifth in that one but it was just his second race after a spell. He finished second a fortnight previously and won seven races last season, looking well above average. Auto Air and Precocious Lad were two of the best two-year-olds last season. Auto Air with second placings in the guineas at Hastings and Wanganui, is already back into form. Another good performance could see him in Melbourne next week for the Caulfield Guineas.
