PA Wellington The Catholic magazine, the “Tablet” says the Gov-ernment-funded A.1.D.5.prevention advertising campaign is immoral.
An editorial in this week’s edition says the A.I.D.S. Foundation’s advertisements are bad news, particularly the one saying that condoms stop the spread of acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The “Tablet” says that statement - is "seriously deficient, morally.” It said the campaign was immoral because it condoned anal and oral sex, sexual partnership outside marriage, and did not refer to Christian values of chastity, or recognition of the word “no” as the best contraceptive.
“The advertisement could well have conveyed the simple, blunt' advice given to New Zealand troops during World War ILTDon’t do it and you
won’t catch it’. “... While the advertisements may serve as a warning, they also amount to an endorsement of a particular lifestyle.
“The advertisements quite plainly give the message that homosexual acts are • a normal lifestyle. They are not.”
The “Tablet’ said that although the Health Department should curb the spread of A.1.D.5., advertising would be better directed through homsexual community publications rather than daily newspapers. “The Government... in our views should reconsider this campaign. Perhaps the director of efforts in this matter should be entrusted to a group more broadly based than the A.I.D.S. Foundation,” it said.
The legalising of homosexual practices would contribute to the spread of A4.D.S.
