Diana sports new cut

NZPA-PA London The Princess of Wales wore a new teddy-girl haircut yesterday. Her trend-setting “D.A.” style brought whoops of delight from the hairdressing industry and sighs of nostalgia from those who still remember drain-pipe trousers, slit skirts, and Elvis Presley. It took ageing rock ’n rollers back to the fifties, when pronounced quiffs and the swept-back D.A. at the nape of the neck was the rage for both sexes.. The Princess showed off her new shorter, sleeker style when she toured the Young Engineer of Britain exhibition at the Wembley Conference Centre in north London. Her ability to set fashion trends made it good news for Britain’s hairdressers. “Many girls will want to be a clone of the new look,” said one delighted expert, Maria Weijer, editor of “Hairdressers’ Journal.” She said Diana’s old style — copied by thousands of teen-agers — was becoming too dated and ageing. The new one gave her a much more youthful image. The Princess may be too young to remember what D.A. stood for — its politest interpretation was duck’s anatomy.
