Study of ‘one-way pairs’

Traffic, landscaping, and the social attitudes of residents will be covered by a study on the Madras Street-Barbadoes Street one-way pairs system. The Christchurch City council is doing the study for the Ministry of Works after it decided to lift its designation for widening of the streets to allow the council’s District Scheme to become operative.

The Ministry has decided the study must be done before any further requirements for the streets are notified as part of the District Scheme review.

The council has set up a team to complete the study.

Traffic requirements will be looked at with a view to producing a com-

puter model to show the effects of intersection layouts.

Landscaping options are being studied also along the present street corridors. Residents will be surveyed for information and attitudes on traffic and the community. Questionnaires will be distributed to a sample of households.
