Southbridge (7 seats) Diane Boon Has a lot of experience with school committees and cub organisations. She would like to work for the welfare of the general community as a councillor. Warren Greenwood ■ Involved with several Southbridge groups, including the table tennis club, playcentre, bowling club and Ellesmere Jaycees. He would like to see amenities maintained and projects under way to improve the welfare of Southbridge residents. This would help attract new residents to Southbridge. Brian Palmer Council member since 1970 and present chairman. He believes that Southbridge is well catered for by the council and wants to maintain tjas standard.
The other candidates for the Southbridge Community Council are Albert Carter, David Ford, Ruth Goulden, Dougal Love, Donald McMillan, David Newbury, Molly Prendergast and Catherine Roilinson. Rakaia Ward (2 seats) Alistair Chaffey Council member for nearly three years, and past member of several organisations including local irrigation committees. He is concerned that ratepayers are paying rates that are too high, with the rural downturn, and wants to try and keep the ad hoc bodies’ rates down in line with council policy. John Gardiner About 39 years with Dunsandel Domain Committee and local hall committee. Treasurer of the Dunsandel Sports Centre. Awarded for service to scouting in 1971, and South Island selector for small-bore
teams. He would like to work towards maintaining small communities, improving the supply of water for stock and helping youth and the elderly in particular. Also standing for the Rakaia Ward is Graham Boon.
The following are elected unopposed: Leeston Community Council: Grant Clausen, James Free, Sharron Hampton, Mary McEvedy, Graeme Nairn, Gwynn Thomson, Colin Walls.
Lincoln Advisory Committee: Alistair Campbell, Dawn Gallagher, Kevin Greene, Neville Keast, Kerry O’Brien, Marion Townsend.
Leeston Township Ward: James Free.
Southbridge Township Ward: Brian Palmer.
Southbridge Ward: Patrick Abbott, David Lilley. Irwell Ward: James Liemburg, John Pearcy, Wallace Walker.
Greenpark Ward: Francis Eggleston, Gerardus Meijer. Springston Ward: Annette Foster, James Grant
