Shipping news Cargo ship Ngapara for sale
A familiar sight at the port of Lyttelton, the general cargo vessel Ngapara has been put up for sale.
The vessel’s owner. Union Maritime Services, has put the Ngapara up for sale through overseas brokers.
The port manager for U.M.S., Mr Peter Greenstreet, said the Ngapara was being sold because of the downturn in Tasman and coastal shipping.
She has been laid up at Lyttelton since May 11 awaiting a cargo.
Mr Greenstreet said that in the two weeks in which she had been for sale there had been several responses from potential buyers.
The Ngapara has carried wheat and other bulk cargoes round New Zealand ports and to Australia during her last 20 years at sea. ARRIVALS Coastal Trader (7 a.m.), 6736, Auckland (N.Z.5.A.1.L.).
