Blood testing for herbicide

PA Wellington A Ministerial committee investigating 2,4,5,-T manufacture at New Plymouth intends bloodtesting residents near the Ivon Watkins-Dow plant said the Minister of Health, Dr Bassett.

Dr Bassett said the inquiry would be extended by one month and would now report back in November.

“A short delay is a small price to pay to see

that the review which is being done in a very systematic manner covers all possible lines of inquiry,” he said.

The three-member committee, headed by the recently retired head of the Otago Medical School, Professor Geoffrey Brinkman, “has my full support in its further studies,” Mr Bassett said.

The blood testing would be done in the interests of making a thorough review.
