Howzat wins two titles

Comfortable wins over Papanui teams gave the Howzat indoor cricket centre a double success in the finals of the General Finance super league at the Sockburn centre on Saturday evening. Converse Howzat was too strong for Radio Avon Papanui in the men’s A grade final, winning 178 to 88. All four partnerships by Howzat batsmen were more than 40, Bryan Andrews and Steve Booth sharing the best stand of 49. Howzat won the B grade

« title, beating Papanui, 151 to 76. The win gave Howzat Sn unbeaten season. The closest final was the women’s contest between Russley and City. Chasing 123, Russley just sneaked ahead, scoring 129. Chris McDonald and Andrea Devine added 38 for Russley, while Jenny Turner and Trudy Anderson put on 36. The pick of the City batsmen were Carol Weir and Mandy Ormandy, with 38. Karen Gunn and Debbie Ford also batted well.
