Council horse sale upsets owner
PA Tauranga The Mount Maunganui - Borough Council received about 50 telephone calls i from people bidding for four impounded runaway i horses facing slaughter. ’ The horses were sold to I Mount
for $l5O on Wednesday, saving them from the knacker’s yard at the end of this week. But the original owner of the horses has come forward, saying he was not aware they had been impounded. The owner also
council drainage contractors were responsible for cutting the fences and leaving gates unlatched, which led to the horses’ escape. The owner said two of the horses were marked and therefore the council should have notified him.
