Applicants must be registrable in New Zealand with the New Zealand Medical Council as a medical practitioner, and be eligible for specialist registration in New Zealand. 1. Specialist E.N.T. Surgeon — Rotorua Hospital A Specialist E.N.T. Surgeon is required by the Rotorua Group Of Hospitals. The position is a parttime one of 7/10ths. Duties will be mainly at Rotorua Hospital, but there will be some duties at Taupo Hospital and Whakatane Hospital. Facilities for private practice are excellent in the Rotorua area. Duties will be shared with the present E.N.T. surgeon. A fully serviced audiology department is currently being developed. Rotorua Hospital has 386 beds and all specialties are well catered for. 2. Specialist Paediatrician — Rotorua and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals, Rotorua This is a full time position, and is a new appointment. The appointee will work with the two present paediatricians to provide a full paediatric service to a region with a population of over 100,000. This will include sharing the care of inpatients and outpatients at Rotorua Hospital; neonatal care in a Level-2 obstetric unit with 14,000 deliveries each year; inpatient and outpatient services at the Child Potential Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and outpatient services at Taupo Hospital. 3. Specialist Physician — Rotorua and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals, Rotorua A vacancy will exist for a Specialist Physician early in 1987, due to the retirement of our Senior Physician. The position advertised is part-time (8/ lOths), with the right of private practice. Rotorua Hospital has 386 beds, with all specialities well catered for; and Queen Elizabeth Hospital has 110 rheumatology beds. The requirement is for a general physician, who will be one of four physicians sharing the care of Inpatients, outpatients, and taking the 1:4 share of the on-call roster. The hospital is well staffed by junior medical officers. 4. Specialist Psychiatrist — Rotorua Hospital, Rotorua This is a full time position. Staffing establishment is for two psychiatrists. These have the backup at present of a registrar, house surgeon, two clinical psychologists, two psychiatric social workers, and a good team of pSychiatric-trained nursing staff, all operating from a modern 32-bed acute psychiatric unit. A service development plan recently presented to the Hospital Board envisages expansion of psychiatric services In this region, with the necessary increase in medical and paramedical staff within the next year or so. The emhasis in the service development plan is on increasing commitment within the community, with greater use of day hospital facilities. Appointees will be given every encouragement and opportunity to develop an interest in a subspeciality. The salary for the above positions is in accordance with Health Service Determination No. M.lO (Medical Officers), currently $NZ52,600-$66,400. The commencing rate will be determined having regard to previous experience and qualifications. 5. MEDICAL OFFICER, ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, ROTORUA HOSPITAL A vacancy will exist in December 1986 for a Medical officer to take charge of the Accident and Emergency Dept at Rotorua Hospital. This is a whole time position and will be on the M.O.S.S. scale, present salary $36,300-$62,600. The apolntee will be responsible for the management and supervision of the Accident and Emergency Dept, and for the assessment of all emergency admissions. There were some 18,000 attendances at the A and E Dept last year. When the Medical Officer is not on duty the department is staffed by resident medical officers. The successful applicant will be expected to provide training and supervision of the Junior staff. A background of experience in general practice would be a distinct advantage; as would a sound basic training in surgical techniques.
