Although this old cob cottage in Loburn has no recorded history, it appealed to 50 people from throughout the South Island who visited it last Sunday. They were particularly interested in how the cottage was built and what kind of restoration work it would need as part of a week-end seminar on cob building restoration. Organised by the Canterbury regional committee of the. New Zealand Historic Places Trust, the “cob crawl” took the group to several cob buildings in Christchurch and North Canterbury. On Saturday the group shared their knowledge and experience of cob restoration work and compiled the first South Island map of cob buildings still standing.
