World trade summit to be held at Taupo

PA Wellington A date has been set for a top-level international trade meeting in New Zealand next year, the “Dominion” newspaper reports. Ministers from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Britain, the United States, Uruguay, and the European Community will meet on March 23 and 25.

They will meet with the Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Moore, at Taupo, in what he has called the most important Ministerial gathering New Zealand has held. The agenda is believed to centre on international agriculture trade, and is designed to build on the declaration against agricultural subsidies and protectionism signed by New Zealand and 13 other countries in Cairns this week.
