Haussmann engaged
A former Christchurch detective, Wayne Haussman, jailed for importing heroin, has become engaged to his girlfrield and co-offender. Haussmann and Dale Mulvihill made the announcement public in'ah advertisement in “The Press” this morning. Haussmann was originally sentenced to 16 years jail for importing and supplying heroin, and Mulvihill, a former civilian computer operator for the police, to 10 years for importing heroin.
Both have since had their sentences halved by the Court of Appeal. Although virtually neighbours, being inmates of Christchurch Women’s and Paparua prisons, the couple will not be able to see each other.
The acting superintendent of Paparua Prison, Mr Keith Chase, said no provision could be made for the couple to meet while both were still serving
sentences. Haussmann will not be eligible for parole' .until 1990, when he will have servfed half of his sentence. Mujjvlhill could be paroled in 1988. Mr Chase said the couple could be . married when one had finished his or her sentence. Mr Chase said Haussmann would be transferred to Rolleston Prison but no date had hppn Rolleston is a minimum security prison where inmates have more privileges and greater freedoms. Haussmann’s father, Mr Malcolm Haussmann, had said his son was "still very much in love” with Mulvihill. He said yesterday he assumed the couple would wait until both had been released before getting married. The couple had written to each other and were allowed the occasional telephone call. . L... .ZZ
