Wellington wool prices firm

PA Wellington Wool prices were firmer at yesterday’s Wellington wool sale compared with the previous sale held in Christchurch last Friday, the official report said. The tone of the market was strong. China and Eastern Europe were the main buyers, with support from New Zealand carpet mills and merchant scourers, the report said. Prices for general fleeces, second shear and first crutchings, were all 2.5 per cent higher. A total of 26,821 bales was on offer, including 2233 bales of Wool Board stock.

Wool Board support was confined to intermediate to short length clothing oddments and crutchings. The board bid on 3101 bales (17.5 per cent) and bought 595 bales (3.5 per cent. The market indicator was 511 c clean and 380 c greasy. Prices were:—

Crossbred fleece, 35 micron, 105 mm to 115 mm: Good to 554, average to good 544 to 549, average to 542. 37 micron, 105 mm to 115 mm; Good 547 to 553, average to good 542 to 551, average to 537. age to good to 509, average to 470. 35 micron, 75-100 to 75125 mm: Good 538 to 542, average to good 530 to 540, average 520 to 528. 35 micron, 50-75 mm to 50-100 mm: Good 517 to 536, average to good 512 to 529. 37 micron, 75-100 mm to 75-125 mm: Good 534 to 543, average to good 529 to 539. 37 micron, 5075mm to 50-100 mm: Good 518 to 535, average to good 510 to 529.
