Extended trade hours
PA Wellington Trading hours of the New Zealand Stock Exchange are to be extended from Monday, the exchange president, Mr Rex Pearson, said yesterday.
Some procedures in the four trading floors in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin will also be changed, he said. Trading from Monday morning trading at all
trading floors will start 30 minutes earlier at 9.39. Afternoon trading will start 15 minutes earlier at 2.25.
In conjunction with this change, adjustments will be made to all trading boards. A standard main trading section will be created on each floor comprising 50 stocks traded alphabetically and ranked by the highest market capitalisations.
This board will be opened at 9.30 and 2.15 each day with the remaining stocks being opened progressively from 9.45 and 2.30.
Mr Pearson said the changes were part of a world-wide trend to longer trading days. They would also alleviate the trading pressure brought about by the very significant numerical increase in the transaction numbers evident in the past few weeks.
