Thackwell and co-driver win enduro round

New Zealand’s Mike Thackwell and the Frenchman Henri Pescarolo, driving a Mercedes, won a 1,000-km endurance race at Nuerburgring after it had been delayed for three hours because of a crash. The Italian, Mauro Baldi, and the West German, Klaus Niedzwiedz, finished second in a Porsche. The start of the race, the seventh in the world championship, was postponed after an accident involving two works Porsche 962 drivers, Hans-Joachim Stuck, of West Germany, and Jochen Mass of Monaco. Both escaped unharmed. The defending champions, Stuck and Derek Bell, of England, maintained their lead in the over-all standings with 70
points after yesterday's race.
