Tasi pumped out at Nelson

PA Nelson Emergency services were called to pump out water from the Tongan freighter Tasi which was in danger of sinking at Port Nelson at the weekend.

The ship began taking in water through the propeller shaft gland into the engine room early on Sunday morning and a Nelson fire engine was called to the port to pump the water out

Three more engines were later called in to help in the effort and a diver went down to determine the extent of the leak.

The leak was eventually sealed and pumping ended after about three hours.
