Bits and pieces ...

Effective from August 1, the New Zealand Post Office has changed its standard connector for plugging modems into the telephone network.

Now the Post Office will install a BT socket on the wall for its customers to plug their modem into. (The BT socket is the connection used by British Telecom.)

All new connections will be installed with the BT socket. Customers who ask for a connection to be moved will also get the BT socket at no extra charge, but will have to change the cord on their

modem so that it ends in a BT plug. * * *

Control Microcomputers, an Auckland importer of computer peripherals, will release a Maltron keyboard for the IBM Personal Computer. The Maltron keyboard is a radically different keyboard layout with a concave shape, designed to be easier to learn and to minimise repetitive strain injury. A switch on the keyboard enables users to choose between the Maltron key layout or the traditional QWERTY layout.
