Peat bog discoveries

Sir,—A recent television film showed the discovery of a body, estimated to be 2500 years old, from a peat bog in England. The body still had the garotting rope around the neck, and showed sword wounds. Possibly a sacrificial burial,'Scandinavia has discovered many? human bodies in its bogs. The most famous is the Tollund Man of Denmark, which also has. the garotting rope arpund the, neck. The hea<i is perfectly preserved;' lookirig'aS if the person were alive. The expression on the face is one of serenity, the victim knowing that his death was due to being a sacrifice of great importance. There is a recorded case of a Viking, King Vikar, drawing his own lot for a sacrificial ceremony to Odin asking for a favourable wind. A calf’s intestines were wrapped around his neck, after which he was speared.—Yours, etc., B. R. HANSEN. August 13, 1986.
