Top price for oil painting
An early New Zealand oil painting by L. W. Wilson was sold at auction last evening for what is believed to be a record price. The painting, "Doubtful Sound,” fetched $36,660 -i» definite record tor the South Island and probably New Zealand, said the auctioneer, Mr David Neill, last evening. More than 200 people attended the auction in Christchurch and bidding for the painting, which was signed and dated in 1896, had been spirited, he said.
