Warwick Taylor hearing continues
The Teachers’ Disciplinary Board hearing against the rebel All Black, Warwick Taylor, is continuing in Christchurch today. The hearing began yesterday. It is not open to the public. Mr Taylor was- absent without leave from his job as a physical education teacher at Burnside High School while on the Cavaliers rugby tour of South Africa earlier this year. The board comprises Messrs Bruce Buckton, a Wellington lawyer (chairman); Owen Saunders, representing the Secondary Schools Boards’ Association; and Kevin Piper, representing the Post-Prim-ary Teachers’ Association.
If the board finds the case brought against Mr Taylor has not been proved, it could direct the Burnside High School board of governors, which made the original complaint, to pay the defence costs he has incurred. If it finds the case proved it could caution, reprimand, or censure Mr Taylor; or order him to pay a penalty of not more than $200; or order that he be transferred to a position of equivalent or lower grading; or order that no salary be paid to him for the time he was away; or it could dismiss him.
