Women’s appeal

Sir, —J. Hubble’s puerile comment (August 1) that “egg-throw-ing at our Queen is no worse than at us,” suggests that she is hardly suitable as prison counsellor. With Elizabeth I, it would have been “Off with their heads.” To any loyal Briton, insult to our Queen insults us who respect her, and admire mother, happy with her children, forfeited many hours with them. 1 1nsult to he&ihsults that land that stood firmly against Nazi terror. Worthy daughter of brave mother who, country in peril, refused to leave her husband, inspiring the world, moving an American, Mary Adams Winter, to write: “Be it said to your renown, that you wore your gayest gown, your bravest smile, and stayed in town, while London Bridge was falling down, my fair lady.” Member of a family, king’s men since the Conqueror, I, at 80, can still strike a blow for my sovereign. — Yours, etc.,
