S.I. snow reports
Several South Island skifields now have snow bases well over one metre in depth. Ski-field conditions reported yesterday to the Christchurch Snow Centre were (all facilities operating unless stated): —
Amur!: Last fall 30cm August 12 on 1.2 m base; some runs groomed; chains required on all vehicles. Broken riven Base 3.2 m; 50cm new snow; all facilities including goods lift; chains essential.
Cardrona: Groomed trails; chains required. Coronet Peak: 110 cm base; last fall scm August 7; all facilities except Rocky gully; groomed slopes; chains carried.
Mount Dobson: 1.2 metres new snow August 10 to 12; main runs groomed; chains required. Fox Peak: 100 cm base; last fall 75cm August 12; groomed runs on main tows; chains required.
Harris' Mountains: Two metres base; last fall August 10; frost-dry powder. Mount Hutt: 200 cm base; last fall 14cm August 12; powder and packed powder; chains required from high level.
Porter Heights: Packed powder; chains required. Rainbow: One metre base; excellent snow; last fall August 8; chains essential.
Remarkables: 127 cm base. Packed powder snow; main trails groomed. Tasman Glacier: Three metre base; last fall 30cm August 11; fresh powder.
Tekapo: 100 cm base; last fall 250 cm August 8 to 11; reopening as soon as possible. Temple Basin: 200 cm average base; spring snow conditions; accommodation available on field.
Treble Cone: Base 150 cm; last fall August 12; chains required.
Mount Cook heliski: Three metre base; fresh powder.
