Assault charge laid
The Christchurch police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged attack on a motorist who was left lying on Lincoln Road, Addington, and was seriously injured when he was run over by a car on Sunday morning. The man, aged 28, was arrested yesterday afterhoon and will appear in the District Court today charged with assault with
intent to injure. the motorist allegedly attacked, Grant Cotton, aged 24, of Christchurch, was reported seriously ill in the intensive-care unit in Christchurch Hospital last evening. The police have said that Mr Cotton was involved in a dispute after the car he was driving and another vehicle were involved in an accident.
Mr Cotton was left lying r in the middle of the road , and the other motorist left , the scene. Soon after, I about 1.40 a.m. on Sunt day, he was run over by 1 another car and suffered serious head injuries. I The police have spoken • to the driver of the car • which ran over Mr Cotton. ; A spokesman said that it ; was possible the driver would face charges.
