Business as usual at merged stud

Although Matamata’s thoroughbred stud, Field House Stud, Ltd, has been merged with the public company, Clearwood Stud, Ltd, it’s business as usual according to Field House’s founder and general manager, Mr David Benjamin. “We’ve been deluged with calls from clients and friends to find out if the decision to sell to Clearwood., meant, we were quitting the r stud,” he said.

“But both my wife, Masey, and I, have agreed to stay on at Field House until after the busy season, which is coming up.” He will continue in a management role, and has retained their stallion interests in the three resident stallions. Clearwood has as major shareholders, two investment companies, Kupe Investments and EuroNational, which would significantly contribute to Clearwood’s “muscle.”

Mr Benjamin said the strength which Field House would contribute will come from its experience after nearly 10 years of operation. It has built up a good band of mares, including the stud’s three resident stallions, Grosvenor, The Expatriate, and Guns of Navarone.

This year the Benjamins will prepare the largest draft of yearlings ever at Field House, .with 49 yearlings going • forward to the sales.
