New system in pipeline?
The Christchurch City Council will appoint a computer consultant to investigate a new council system — at a cost of $40,W0 — if it follows a policy and finance recommendation.
The appointment, not a full-time one, was approved by the policy and finance committee yester-
day. The money is provided for in the annual budget
The consultant will spend about six months developing a model of the council’s present management activities, identifying changes for greater efficiency, preparing a system specification and outlining what the new
system would have to handle.
The council has recently signed contracts for the first stage of a new computer for the Municipal Electricity Department and is negotiating a contract for a system for the Canterbury Public Library.
