Soccer player dies in car accident
; PA Auckland A young national league soccer player died on Saturday when his car hit a power pole in Manukau. He was Manu Hudson, aged 21, of Argyle Avenue, a member of the Manurewa national league side. The police said Hudson was driving north on Great South Road about 4 a.m. when his vehicle failed to take a comer and slid into the pole. The impact broke the car in half. Hudson was due to take the field for Manurewa
yesterday against North Shore. Although he joined Manurewa this season, Hudson spent his early soccer years playing for Papakura. He was an age-grade representative from the age of eight and was named player of the tournament at the national under 14 tournament in 1979. When his old Papakura side took the field to play Otara Rangers on Saturday there was a minute of silence in Hudson’s memory.
