Gang takes herbicide

PA Auckland The police suspect that an organised ring is responsible for the theft of herbicide worth more than $200,000.

Detective Mark Templeman, of the Otahuhu C. 1.8. said that in four burglaries alone herbicide value at $212,000 had been stolen.

“That is only the tip of the iceberg. These guys are stealing to order,” he said.

Detective Templeman said he was fairly sure most of the orchardists and farmers who bought the herbicide knew it was stolen because it was being sold cheaply. The police believe at least eight people are in the gang, which has been operating for about 12 to 18 months from Waiuku, in South Auckland, to Whangarei.
