Manager post rejected
NZPA-Reuter London Ray Illingworth, the former England cricket captain, has turned down the opportunity of becoming England’s team manager. Mr Illingworth, aged 54, has confirmed he had been offered a three-year contract, but had rejected it because
he wanted more authority and control than offered. Mr Illingworth wanted the job to include over-all responsibility for cricketing matters, including team selection, but the English Test and County Cricket Board (T.C.C.8.) wants to appoint someone without this.
