Camberley Albatross the one to beat

Special correspondent Auckland

Camberley Albatross, which is due for some luck in the running, looks the one to beat in the Cambridge Trotting Cup tonight. He is handily placed on 10 metres in the Radio IZH-sponsored race and will be suited by the distance of 2600 metres.

Camberley Albatross was again desperately unlucky when third in the Northcote Mobile pace at Alexandra Park last Monday. After starting from the front row, he wound up last at one stage. He came from just about as far back when fourth in a flying mile in his previous race and he had poor runs when second and fifth before that.

Camberley Albatross has drawn No 3 — the

outside, — on the 10m mark, so there should be little chance of his becoming awkardly placed from there.

Sheraton Way and Zedechias are bound to be heavily backed. Yet another minor placing was chalked up by Sheraton Way when he finished second to Run Brydon at Alexandra Park on July 19.

It was the third time in four starts he had been runner-up and on the other occasion he was third. He won his previous race, so is a model of consistency.

Zedechias is also in grand form. He did not have the best of runs in the Northcote Mobile Pace and did well to finish second.

He won his previous two races in the style of a horse which has a good way to go before he reaches his limit.

Even though awkwardly drawn at the start, Surmo’s Reign should be a tough proposition in the Curtins Farm Mobile Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.

He is the only horse in the field which has won two races — one was penalty-free — and he performed very creditably in the strongest two-year-old company. The only other winner in the field is Keswick. He has not raced for over two months but he has been shaping well at trials lately.

Brief Flight, second in each of his two races so far, will have a good following. He fought on gamely at Alexandra Park on July 11 after being parked out mostly and he was only just caught by Thai Dara Liline on the same, track last Monday after making all the pace.
