Identification wanted

The Christchurch police are keen to find the owners of two rifles, pictured above held by Constable Mike Chappell. The rifles were recovered by police investigating the killing of Dale Puru, whose body was

found at Waimairi Beach on July 20. However, Detective Inspector Roger Carson said that there was no suggestion that either rifle was used in the killing, or that the owners had any involvement.

One is described as a Winchester model 94, of .303 calibre, with a levertype action. It was in a camouflage case. The other is a Marlin model 1894, of .44 calibre, with a micro-groove barrel and a lever-type action.
