Doctor reprimanded

PA Auckland A Grey Lynn general practitioner, Dr Paul Walmsley, has been reprimanded for supplying a drug addict with tranquillisers and painkillers. The Medical Council said it had found that Dr Walmsley prescribed excessive amounts of the drugs, diazepam, fortral and codeine, with “irresponsible frequency” to a patient he knew was an addict

The council said it found him guilty of disgraceful professional conduct, censured him and banned him for three years from treating drug addicts and prescribing controlled drugs. His prescriptions would be monitored by the Health Department for the next three years, the council said.
