Prog Ent record?

PA Auckland Supermarket operator, Progressive Enterprises, Ltd, is headed for another record year, retiring chairman, Mr R. W. Haworth, told the annual meeting. He said profit for the first half should be up slightly on that for the corresponding period last year. More business from new supermarkets in the south, from the Three Guys operation and Georgie Pie should ensure another record for the full year, said Mr Haworth.

Progressive, he said, was confident of its ability to both meet and lead local competition. Mr Haworth noted that when planning began for the new Foodtown, supermarket in Palmerston North, prices were between 10 and 16 per cent higher than those in Auckland. When the supermarket opened the difference was between 2 and 5 per cent

A representative of the Halt All Racist Tours organisation questioned Mr Haworth about the sale of South African goods in

Foodtown supermarkets. The Hart representative held up a can of South African guavas he . had bought from a Foodtown supermarket Mr Haworth said "one or two small South African items” were sold in the company’s stores, but the board of directors was reviewing policy in that respect Mr Haworth, who retired as chairman at the meeting, will be replaced by Mr W. Wilson. Two new directors, Mr Q. D. Ross and Mr B. M. Stanton, were elected.
