Pigs, prime lambs, old ewes, beef meet good competition

All types of prime and store pigs were in strong demand at the Addington market yesterday. Heavy baconers regularly sold for more than $l5O and most porkers exceeded $lOO. The strong interest in prime pigs carried through to the store pig section where unfinished pork and large stores were keenly sought Other encouraging signs for farmers were an increase in prime lamb prices and a steady inquiry for old ewes and beef. The buying gallery of butchers, farmers and a processing company handled a big yarding of 3280 lambs with relative ease. Heavy ram lambs were again easy to sell, with heavily woolled stock reaching $27. Ram lambs regularly sold between $l9 and $24, while ewe lambs were in firm demand at $l4 to $l6.
