Four persons fined for baring buttocks
Three women and a man were fined $lOO each yesterday for baring their buttocks at the'Queen during her visit to Christchurch in March. The defendants were convicted of offensive behaviour. A fourth woman, charged with obstructing a constable during the same incident, had the charge dismissed. Before Judge Fraser in the District Court yesterday were Joseph Robert Davies, aged 32; Ruth Terina Gray, aged 21; Suz-
anne Lea Robins, aged 21; and Rita Catherine Simmonds, aged 33. The Judge said that he would have imposed the maximum penalty, a $5OO fine, as he considered it “the most serious offence of its kind.” However, because each defendant was of limited means, he fined them $lOO each.
